Comics Review: Avengers vs X-men Round 3 And 4

Comics Review: Avengers vs X-men Round 3

The cosmic force known as the Phoenix Force approaches.  It could mean the end of the Earth. However, it is up to The Avengers to take its chosen host, Hope Summers into custody, but the X-men stand in their way.

As the story left off from AVX Round 2, Hope Summers is starting to bond with the Phoenix Force. Wolverine and Spider-man reach Hope, but Hope burns Wolverine and knocks out Spider-man. Hope then runs away from Utopia.

The fight between The Avengers and X-men has temporarily been put on hold for the moment; the X-men gave up. Iron Man and Captain America argues over what to do with The X-men, something doesn’t seem right about the surrender.

As Wolverine comes running with claws ready, his animal extinct smells that something is up. Magik is pretending to be Dr. Strange, and Cyclops orders Magik to teleport them out of there. The X-men are happy that Hope has escaped, but want to find her before The Avengers.

The X-men has a spy on the other side. Using Cerebra, The Avengers find that Hope’s signal is in several places on the Earth; this just adds to the Avengers worries. The Avengers decide to split up, and are dispatched to all locations.

Wolverine is asked to fly with Captain America and his crew. On the flying ship Captain America confronts Wolverine about his obvious plans to kill Hope. Wolverine thinks that the only way to stop the Phoenix Force.

For this next part, I thought it was a little abrupt, but during the argument Cap punches Wolverine in his jaw. I guess having a normal discussion was out of the question. This leads to a big battle aboard their flying vessel. The fight runs about six pages in glorious fashion. It is a wonderfully illustrated scene. It includes all comic book fans favorite written sound effects such as Kraak, Skkng, and finally Whaaam!

Instead of just taking Wolverine into custody Giant Man kicks him out of the flying vessel where he falls thousands of feet to the Arctic surface. I know that Wolverine has healing ability, and can withstand such a fall, but it does seem a little drastic to do such a thing to someone who has left and turned against his friends, The X-men in order to support The Avengers; but hey, it just adds to the action of the story.

Avengers vs X-men is a wonderfully exciting story and is beautifully illustrated. The emotions on the characters are presented in a way that draws you into the story. Some parts do seem missing in the story though; but I think that it is due to being expanded into crossover comics such as Wolverine and the X-men.

Comics Review: Avengers vs X-men Round 4

Wolverine was thrown out of the plane by the Avengers over and into Antarctica; he wonders the ice cold terrain with only a polar bear skin (a fresh kill) to keep him warm, and then he finds Hope. At the same time somewhere out within the universe Thor and other superheroes try to keep The Phoenix energy at bay but fail in their endeavor, the Phoenix has consumed another world, next stop Earth.

Within several places on the Earth the members of the Avengers and X-men are fighting each other in order to find Hope Summers. Wolverine has found her but none of the others know that. Wolverine hates The Phoenix for what it did to Jean Grey, and now everyone expects The Phoenix to possess Hope.

Wolverine and Hope’s journey has led them to the headquarters at A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) in order to hijack a rocket to the Moon. It seems a little odd that they would want to go hide on the Moon but that is where the story is headed.

Wolverine and Hope land on the Moon in an area created by the alien race the Skrulls, it seems that it is a breathable environment because no one is wearing protective space suits. The Avengers are there waiting for them.

Hope expresses her disappointment at Wolverine for revealing their whereabouts but she should fell lucky considering Wolverine wanted to kill her in the first place. The X-men follow them there as well; they there teleported with Magik’s mutant ability but everyone is too late, The Phoenix has arrived.

This comic book issue is short and there is not too much more information given towards this story. However, there are some nice visuals during the battle scenes between the Avengers and X-men. No one in particular stands out in this issue; it seems that it is just there to move the story along for The Phoenix’s arrival to Earth.
