The Wolverine wowed fans with the popular comic storyline brought to film which takes Logan to Japan. By the time X-men Days of Future Past comes out in theaters Hugh Jackman would have played Wolverine six times (5 movies, and 1 cameo in X-men First Class). Out of all those times we have yet to see the character of Wolverine in his most famous costume.
As it turns out at the end of the movie, The Wolverine was supposed to feature a scene where Jackman was supposed to suit up in Wolverine’s classic black and yellow armor. However, to the disappointment of all of Wolverine’s fans the scene never was filmed. James Mangold, the director of The Wolverine did not think it was right for the story and character.
The costume was made with a 3D printer by Adam Ross of Legacy Effects, a digital modeler and sculptor who has worked on such high profile movies as Robocop, Pacific Rim, and Iron Man 3. For a brief moment Adam Ross got to show off his creation paying homage to the popular Wolverine Costume that fans know and love, however, most images of the costume has been taken down from the web. The image was first seen on the website Movieweb, but now shows a message stating that the image has been taken down by request.
The picture shows the familiar Wolverine mask, his boots and gloves with the steel holes for his claws. The costume is laid out in a case. Here is a comment from Adam Ross concerning the design of the suit.
“This is the costume that I modeled for The Wolverine. It was unused in the final cut of the film. Everything in the box is digitally modeled and 3d printed. There is no cloth or leather used in these parts, but rather texturing added in ZBrush.”
Although the costume was not used in The Wolverine feature film there still may be hope for fans to see Jackman in the famous outfit. The costume is similar to the colors of the X-men First Class jumpsuits, and it can compliment their team dynamic when he joins them in their mission to save the future. It is my hope that they somehow fit it into Bryan Singer’s X-men Days of Future Past; it can be presented as special armor that can protect Wolverine from the weapons of the Sentinels. Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part.
I still love the character of Wolverine with or without the costume. If Days of Future Past is to be Hugh Jackman’s last performance as Wolverine then it will be great to see him him wear the costume at least one time.
